Deborah Bednarek (nee Spangenberg) – Passed into Eternal Life on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at age 70.

Beloved wife of Russ for 45 years. Loving daughter of Robert and the late Adeline. Also loved by her sister Robin (Jeffrey) Karns, brother Bruce (Josette) Spangenberg and nieces Laura, Emily, and Molly. Further survived by other relatives and friends.

Deb was a graduate of New Berlin West High School and UW-Platteville. She returned to New Berlin, completing a successful 34-year career as an elementary art teacher for New Berlin Public Schools.

Deb’s interests were varied and she was passionate about all of them. Gardening was one of her favorite activities. Always changing and expanding, her gardens now contain over 100 varieties of Hosta in addition to other woodland plants. An avid Brewers fan, Deb and her father attended games from the late 1970s up to 2019. Her highlight was being in attendance for all of the 1982 World Series games.

Dogs played an important part in Deb’s life. She was interested in the Kerry Blue Terrier and owned four during her lifetime; Maggie, Emma, her Champion Raza, and Cindy. Deb and Russ traveled the country, establishing many friendships when Russ was showing Raza.

Deb’s true gift was her creativity, which was expressed through her work utilizing fibers, metal and beads. That work resulted in unique pieces of jewelry. Handmade dolls were a success at several juried shows. Fibers, however, remained Deb’s true passion. Whether it was tapestry, knitting, or weaving, she was always pushing herself to explore and master new methods and techniques. The financial success and accolades she received for her jewelry, scarves, sweaters, cowls and other items were not important to her. The true reward for Deb was the enjoyment of engaging in the process of design and her work to complete her vision.

A Gathering will be held at Krause Funeral Home at 12401 West National Avenue, New Berlin, Wisconsin on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM with a Celebration of Life to follow at 5:00 PM.
