Darlene Sharron Strong was born on April 18, 1952, to Hazel L. (Hicks) and Crawford G. Strong in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was one of seven siblings.
Darlene graduated from North Division High School in 1970. She went on to pursue cosmetology and became a licensed beautician. She joined St. Mark AME Church in her twenties in Milwaukee, WI.
Darlene would go on to build her life in Milwaukee and give birth to two children, Antionne Strong and Tiandra Clark.
Darlene embodied fearlessness and integrity above all else. She was known for her sense of humor and unflinching honesty. You could always count on getting the truth from Darlene, and the beauty shop was where she held court.
Darlene owned and operated Dar’s Beauty Salon for more than 28 years, until she retired in 2010 due to dementia. During her 28 years in business, Darlene employed a host of beauticians, barbers, and nail technicians, and served as a pillar in her community.
Darlene loved cutting and styling hair in addition to shopping at her favorite store, Boston Store. She was known for hosting large cookouts at her home on Congress Street every summer. Christmas was Darlene’s favorite holiday, and she loved decorating her house and yard every year. Darlene also enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and favorite nephew, DJ (Denzel Shabazz).
Darlene Sharron Strong entered eternal rest on March 13, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Crawford G. and Hazel L. Strong, and three brothers, Crawford C. Strong Jr., Minor Strong, and Dewayne strong.
She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Antionne Strong (Andrea); daughter, Tiandra Clark; one sister, Vinitia (Joyce) Strong-McDonald; two brothers, James F. Strong (Katherine) and Arthur F. Strong; seven granddaughters, LaShay, Raniyah, E’Mahriyah, Ray’Anna, Stepheny, Ashley, and Allison; and six great-grandchildren.
Though the conditions of her departure bring us all great sadness, Darlene was not defeated in this life. May we find comfort in knowing that she is no longer burdened by illness and is free from suffering.
