Mrs. Darlene Mae King of Sussex was called home to God on the morning of Monday, December 14th, 2020. Darlene was 78 years old. She was born to life on September 23, 1942, in Milwaukee, WI to Edwin and Elizabeth (nee David) Werdermann. A graduate of Milwaukee’s Rufus King High School. For many years, Darlene worked for Benson Manufacturing / Design House in Menomonee Falls, WI. After retiring from the manufacturing business, she entered the retail service part-time. She also was a longtime employee of Pick ‘N Save of Sussex where she would gleefully share her stories of the mischiefs that would occur with her family. Darlene retired there in 2017.
A kind, generous, and loving woman, Darlene cherished spending memorable times with her beloved family. She especially loved traveling to visit and devote quality time with her family, traveling to Missouri, Colorado, Nevada, Kansas, and Washington. Darlene made a point not to miss any special occasion or major life event in their lives and made many unforgettable memories along the way. After any outing, Darlene would invite her family to “get a bite to eat” and insisted it was “my treat.” Darlene loved to chat and spend time with the ones she loved. Darlene was a devout Wisconsin sports fan. She loved to cheer on the Milwaukee Brewers, Bucks, and primarily the Green Bay Packers. Christmas was Darlene’s favorite holiday. She was best known for her baking talents and her delicious quick breads, which will always be a family Christmas and holiday staple. Her favorite movie was “The Christmas Story” which she watched every year on Christmas Day. Darlene enjoyed shopping and particularly loved to spoil her children and grandchildren. She valued spending time with family and showered all of us with her love.
Darlene will be missed greatly by her children Linda M.(Nee Jordan) Paton and John J. Jordan (Tracy Averkamp). Her grandchildren: Abbey L.(Nee Paton) and Christopher R. Pedersen, David C. Paton, and Samantha M. Paton. Her great-grandchild, Lydia L. Pedersen, will be reminded often of her time spent with “G2.” Darlene is further survived by her loving brothers Edwin Jr. (Sue) and David (Debra) Werdermann, stepchildren Todd (Cathy), Scott (Sandi), and Dustin (Cherish) King. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family, and dear friends. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Elizabeth (Nee David) Werdermann, son Charles David Jordan, son-in-law David Allen Paton, and husband Donald M. King.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 20851 West Main Street, Lannon, Wisconsin on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 4:30 PM. Visitation will be from 3:30 PM until the time of the service. A remembrance reception dinner will follow at 6:00 PM at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin; all are invited to attend.
