Always a fighter and optimist, Dale bravely battled multiple health issues including a final bout with cancer which he had previously beaten 4 times. He showed the same positive attitude and unwavering perseverance with this battle as he did with every challenge he was presented with in his 85 years.
Born on January 12, 1940, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Dale was the son of the Fred “Fritz” DeMeuse and Irene (nee Mazur). He is preceded in death by his sister Joanne (JoJo), half-sister Sceone and half-brother Darrell. Dale is survived by his wife of 65 years, Georgianna (GiGi) and half siblings Gary and Bonnie. Dale’s legacy and influence extends to his four children; Jeff (Tracy), Mary (Karden), Brian (Annette 1) and Robert (Annette 2); 14 grandchildren; Maria (David), Eric (Danielle), Anna, Michael (Elizabeth), Tehya (Sara), Konner (Annaliese), Hannah, Gabrielle (Brad), Greta, Isabella, Tyler, Jenna, Jessica and Lauren; 13 great-grandchildren; Isaac, Eli, Jonah, Sophia, Henley, Dominic, Paul, George, Clara, Edmund, Louis, McCoy, Ella.
Dale is a graduate of South Division High School in Milwaukee. His baseball coach at the time turned out to be his future father-in-law, as that is how he met GiGi. Dale joined the United States Marine Corps in 1959 and earned the leave he needed to get married and start a family in California by finishing 1st in his class. He served until 1963 and attained the rank of Sergeant. His military experience set the foundation for what would be an incredible life.
After his service, Dale returned to Wisconsin and worked multiple jobs while continuing his education and growing his family. He graduated with a Bachelor of Art in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1973, moved to Zionsville, IN in 1974 and completed his MBA in Public Administration from Indiana University. Moving back to Wisconsin, Dale did graduate work towards a Ph. D, at the University of Wisconsin in Urban Affairs.
Dale’s early resume included three years as the Regional Security Director for Sears, 10 years as a Brown Deer Police Officer obtaining the rank of Detective Sergeant and Investigation Division Commander and part time work at UPS in their loss prevention department investigating claims. It wasn’t until he became a teacher and coach at WCTC that Dale would find his true passion. He taught Criminal Justice for 17 years at WCTC along with Police Recruit School and Detective In-Service training. He earned countless teacher of the year awards.
He also coached baseball and wrestling for 16 years where he would achieve equal success winning multiple WJCAA state championships and coach of the year recognitions. Dale continued his teaching career by starting Criminal Justice outreach programs with multiple colleges around the state. His unique communication style, entertaining personality and relentless drive to succeed worked very well in the classroom and on the mat/field.
In retirement, Dale enjoyed working out, going to happy hour, ‘camping’ in Sturgeon Bay with his family, watching sports (especially his grandkids play) and the occasional wager. If Dale was present, you had all the ingredients for a party.
Dale’s impact can’t be measured by his accomplishments but rather the accomplishments of those who called him professor, coach, friend, grandpa, dad and husband. He was truly one-of-a-kind that made an impact to so many. Heaven is in for a treat.
