Craig W. Smith, age 84, of Dousman Wisconsin passed away on May 31, 2026. He was born on July 11, 1941 in Madison, Wisconsin to his parents, Winston and Dorothy Smith. He is survived by his wife Jane Smith, daughters Jenna Smith and Kim (Tom) Spitz-Dugall, grandchildren Erik Spitz and Sonia Spitz, and brother Dr. Wade (Jeanne) Smith. We will all miss him dearly.
Craig and Jane (Debs) met as freshmen at Wisconsin High School and married in 1964 after Craig graduated from Milton College. Their adventures as a couple and a family led them to meet lifelong friends in Madison WI, Bloomingdale IL, Delafield WI and Fort Myers FL.
Craig worked his entire career for American Family Insurance as a Branch Claims Manager. He led departments and claims facilities in Madison, Brookfield, and Racine WI as well as Schaumburg IL just to name a few. He was particularly proud of his time leading the CAT team (catastrophe response team) that deployed nationally following natural disasters to get customers immediate support when they needed it most.
Craig loved his family and found great joy in raising his two daughters as well as his two grandchildren. He shared his opinion and knowledge frequently by being “Answer Man” to any question, big or small. He often shared an “I’m proud of you” which reminded us of the care and love he devoted to each of us for our individual strengths and achievements.
Craig will be remembered for his love of golf, ice cream, his 1966 Chevy Impala Convertible (his mother’s car thoughtfully restored to original with Wade and Winston), and his quest to find the best chicken tenders in all the land. Let the record show the best chicken tenders can be found at Jerry’s Grocery located on Sanibel Island, FL.
Celebrations of life will be scheduled later this year in Wisconsin and Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Three Pillars.
