Clarence Schmidt Jr, 88, died on Saturday, May 2, 2026 in hospice care after several recent health challenges. He was born in Burlington, Iowa to the late Clarence Sr and Stella (Kludy) Schmidt. Clarence was married to the late Loretta (Boling) Schmidt prior to their divorce and they shared a daughter.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Gerry (Roy) Wickhart, Mary (Ken) Park, Betty (Sid) Barrick, and Edna Mae Schmidt. He is survived by his daughter Kathryn (Richard) Wakeling of Avon, Indiana. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Clarence grew up in Sperry, Iowa. Clarence attended Southeast Iowa Community College (SCC) in West Burlington Iowa and spent time in the Army. Clarence then worked for JI Case (Tenneco) in a variety of operations leadership positions in their facilities in Burlington Iowa, Terre Haute Indiana, and Wausau Wisconsin prior to retiring after decades of service. Clarence then spent several years working for Fiskars as a Software Implementation Specialist. In this role he traveled to many sites including Melbourne Australia, Toronto Canada, Orlando Florida, Portland Oregon and Madison Wisconsin. Clarence then fully retired and moved to Franklin, Wisconsin.

Though retired, he continued to keep up with all the latest technology. He enjoyed watching sports supporting his favorite teams: Iowa, Alabama, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, and the Indiana Fever.

Visitation will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 West National Avenue, New Berlin, Wisconsin from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Thursday, May 14, 2026. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 PM. Clarence will be laid to rest in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Eras Senior Network. This organization offers many services including volunteer rides to seniors for medical appointments in Milwaukee/Waukesha counties and was a tremendous help to Clarence over the last several months.
