Charles “Charlie” Kubicek, age 72 from Waterford, Wisconsin, left this world on February 16, 2023.
He died peacefully at home with his wife at his side. Charlie was born to Charles and Marion (nee Sasek) Kubicek in West Allis, WI. On Dec. 11, 1971, he married Edie Risch in Milwaukee. They were married for 51 years. Charlie is survived by his wife, Edie and sisters Diane Koch, Lynn (Jack) Spencer and Karen (Jim) Haertel, sister-in-law Jan (Dan) Dickinson and nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Charlie attended Nathan Hale High School and earned BS and MS degree from the School of Social Welfare at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He graduated Suma Cum Laude with a Masters Degree from UWM. He was a Social Worker at St Michael Hospital in Milwaukee from 1976 through 1980 and a Social Worker at Froedtert Hospital from 1980 until his retirement in 2010.
Charlie enjoyed many outdoor activities. He had thought he would try mountain climbing but due to breaking both legs in an accident at Devils Lake, his goals came back down to earth and became a passionate golfer and fly fisherman. He made many friends golfing. He later turned to fly fishing both near and far. If he wasn’t fishing with friends, he would enjoy the solitude of fishing alone. Charlie spent many hours casting on Southwestern Wisconsin trout streams and loved every minute. He also traveled to Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah to fish some bigger waters. Near home, he enjoyed hiking the trails of Kettle Moraine and Door County or enjoying nature close to home. Charlie and Edie made yearly trips to islands in the Caribbean for winter breaks. In more recent years he enjoyed going to the YMCA in Mukwonago
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Froedtert Hospital Cancer Center and Horizon Home Hospice for their compassion and care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mukwonago YMCA.
A memorial gathering will take place on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 West National Avenue, New Berlin, Wisconsin from 10:00 AM to 12:25 PM. Celebration of life to follow at 12:30 PM.
