It was a privilege knowing Brek. We met while 2020 Census workers at Milwaukee headquarters. It saddens me that I’ll not have the continued pleasure of his company. His wit and wisdom will be sorely missed.

As the year closes, I think of those who we have lost this year. My Brother-In-Law Brek was unfortunately and unexpectedly on that list. Brek is close to my age, and I am sure he thought, like I, that he had many years still ahead of him. Brek, we didn't know each other very well, but I really appreciate the laughter and joy you gave Wendy through the remainder of her life and especially how you took care of her as she was dying of cancer. You brought beautiful music to the ears of many, which will live on in your recordings. You will be missed.

Brek was a long-standing member of the Milwaukee Area Messiah Chorus and Orchestra. He was a wonderful and unique musician and we will miss him greatly.

Brek and Wendy had rather exacting personalities. They were quite comfortable with each other. Wendy passed away some 19 years earlier in 2004.
In his 2020 year-end newsletter, Brek noted that the "pink-glass high rise" where he was working to help with the 2020 census now "sits on the lot where Wendy and I parked and talked for hours after Milwaukee Symphony concerts during our early courtship."
Now back together again.
