Bernie was born on March 3, 1933 (3-3-33) in Milwaukee Wisconsin. After graduating from Rufus King High School, Bernie worked at A.O. Smith Corporation in Milwaukee for 30 years and retired at the young age of 48. In 1985, Bernie and Fred then moved to Irma, WI to enjoy their retirement together in the log home that her husband built. They took many cross country road trips to visit family and friends especially during the long winter months.
Bernie was a talented craftswoman. Her hobbies included: quilting, knitting (many mittens and hats for the Tomahawk School and her grandchildren), crocheting and needlepointing. She was a charter member of Four Rivers Quilt Club in Tomahawk. Also, loved to read, cook and bake (especially her famous apple slices). She was a classic movie buff, notably anything in the Western genre, especially if it included John Wayne. When her children and grandchildren came to visit in Tomahawk, many times she would initiate a board game or card game to be played at the large kitchen table.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1st at Gethsemane United Methodist Church, 642 Main St. Pewaukee. Visitation will start at 11:30 AM, service will begin at 12:00 PM with a luncheon to follow. Commital of her ashes will be taking place Saturday, June 29th at 11:00 AM at Oak Hill Cemetery, County Road V, Irma.
Bernie was a proud lifelong member of The United Methodist Church. She and Fred served on multiple committees and volunteered their time to serve others.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in their name at the Tomahawk United Methodist Church, 1104 School Road, Tomahawk, WI 54487.
Special thanks to the kind staff at Legacy Assisted Living and Legacy Hospice for their care of Bernie.
