Beloved wife and best friend of Mark and cherished mother of Emma (Ryan)Lakin, Ellie, Heidi, and Tommy who she joined in heaven. Loving daughter-in-law of Bill Stueckroth and preceded in death by her son Tommy, parents Norbert and Vondell Kis, mother-in-law Ruth Stueckroth, and brother-in-law Patrick Linskens. Amy loved her family, and we want to mention each of them. They all meant so much to her, and mean the world to us. Her sisters Karen (Dale) Weber, Barb (Matt) Uselman, Sandy Linskens (Tom Slota), Holly Brown, Anne (Dave) Simson. Her brothers Brian (Sheila) Kis, Tom Kis (Barb Heath). Loving in-laws Dawn (Mike) Trebatoski, Tim (Mary) Stueckroth, Noel (David) Leif, and Serge Carre. She was also loved dearly by many nieces and nephews. The list of people she held dear would not be complete without mentioning her Breast Cancer Sisters.
Amy was born in Racine, attended Holy Name elementary School, graduated from Park High, and obtained her BS in Dental Hygiene from Marquette University in 1986. While working for Saga Foods in one of the MU dorms, she met a Nursing Student named Mark who asked her to the Nursing Ball. After they both graduated, Mark proposed on a Stueckroth family trip to Bermuda, and they married in 1987 at Racines’s Holy Name Church in front of family and friends. They bought a duplex in Wauwatosa shortly after, where Emma was born, and moved to their current residence in Brookfield in 1997 when Amy was expecting Ellie. Tommy and Heidi would follow. Amy worked for 25+ years for the Czaplicki Family Dentistry practice. In preparation for volunteering in Guatemala in 2007, she trained on how to administer oral anesthetics to help prep patients.
Amy loved to travel and she and Mark took many trips together, before and after having their kids. Trips to Europe the year after getting married, to many National Parks on the West Coast during Mark’s sabbatical in 2010, and to Australia to visit Ellie were just three of her favorites. By far she loved going to the white sandy beaches of Destin, especially once they obtained a condo there in 2015. Many of those trips were shared with family and friends because it was so special to her, even as recently as this November.
The fall of 2015 was when Amy was diagnosed with Stage 4 bilateral lobular breast cancer. She went through a number of intense surgeries the following year, as well as radiation and chemotherapy, in order to give her the best chance against this awful disease. For the next eight years, Amy did her best to live her life to the fullest. She took up crafting, paddle boarded as much as weather permitted and made time to be with family and friends as often as possible. She also became a mentor with ABCD (After Breast Cancer Diagnosis), supporting others just diagnosed and living with cancer. It was so rewarding for her, and she made many new and wonderful friends across the country.
Amy was such an inspiration and role model for many who got to know her, even if she did not see that quality in herself. She just wanted to squeeze as much fun and time with loved ones out of life as possible. She most often greeted everyone with a smile and warm energy, and will be dearly missed. She was greeted by many at the gates to heaven, and we will miss her until we see her again!
Visitation will occur at Krause Funeral Home on December 27th, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, located at 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin.
