If you’ve been to Krause Funeral Homes recently, you’ve probably met Bennie. If you haven’t had the pleasure of spending time with him, we’d be happy to introduce you! Bennie is a Portuguese waterdog with big brown eyes and a joyful spirit, whose “parents” are none other than Krause Funeral Home president Mark Krause and his wife Joan, who was also his trainer. His “sister” is Nicole – pictured here with him.
Bennie is also our certified grief therapy dog here at Krause, and it’s safe to say he’s the most popular member of our staff! Through his certification and participation in the Canine Good Citizen program, Bennie had two years of specialized training before joining our Milwaukee team. He’s had a deep impact on countless people since then, with his ability to zero in on those who need the most support.
Because of Bennie’s presence at the funeral home, whether at a service or visitation upon request, or in an arrangements office, we have seen grieving children open up about their feelings and adults become visibly less stressed. We’ve watched Bennie help people relax in situations that are anything but relaxing. He provides a calming presence when families need it most, and can make the tension in a room disappear.
We know people cope with loss in different ways, and every day we talk with those who are feeling stunned, sad, and lonely due to the death of a loved one. Of course, we do what we can to offer support, but Bennie provides comfort in ways other people simply can’t. He brings instant serenity into heartbreaking situations.
Research supports what we’ve noticed: Spending time with animals brings physical benefits such as reduced risk for heart disease, lower cholesterol, and lower blood pressure. One study in the American Journal of Cardiology found pets can be linked to the heart’s ability to adapt to stressful events.
Some of our favorite moments are when visitors who don’t consider themselves “dog people” fall in love with Bennie! He truly spreads so much happiness with his wagging tail and friendly face.
We encourage you to plan a visit to meet Bennie and the rest of our dedicated staff. You can learn about the grief services we offer and perhaps talk with us about the importance of preplanning. All while spending time with the most handsome dog around. Reach out to us today!
