Life moves fast in a city like Milwaukee, but there are times it’s imperative to slow down and take a deep breath. The days, weeks, and months after losing someone you love is definitely one of those times. Our staff at Krause Funeral Homes knows firsthand how difficult and confusing the grieving process can be. And our daily work helping families plan funerals, cremation arrangements, and burials definitely reinforces the complexities of life after loss.
Though it may be tempting to sweep painful feelings under the rug or simply return to life “as usual,” grief has a way of making itself known – sometimes when you least expect it. This is why we encourage families to take time to rest and reflect while adapting and adjusting to life without a loved one. Sure it may feel easier to throw yourself back into work, or distract yourself taking care of others. But there is so much to be said for spending time outside in a quiet place by yourself or with those who love you. This is something the “busy griever” may avoid. But in our many decades working in funeral care, we see again and again how important it is to sit with your thoughts – however sad, uncomfortable, or unpleasant they may be.
To give you the encouragement you may need, we’ve come up with a list of four of our favorite places to go in the Milwaukee area to get away from it all.
The trail has many access points in Milwaukee, Brown Deer, and Oak Creek.
Hundreds of miles of paved trails meander in and around the city of Milwaukee, some along the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan.
