Therapy Dog

Meet Bennie

Did you know that animals – especially dogs – can have a positive influence on your physical and mental health? When our team at Krause Funeral Homes learned how dogs can help those who are grieving, we knew we wanted a grief therapy dog available to comfort families we serve here in Milwaukee County. Our first grief therapy dog was Oliver Krause, and he spent many years helping grieving families before he died in 2011.

Our current Grief Therapy Dog, Bennie, is continuing Oliver’s legacy. Bennie is a Portuguese Water Dog with big brown eyes and a joyful spirit, whose “parents” are Mark Krause and his wife, Joan

Many families have asked about Bennie, our beloved grief therapy dog here at Krause Funeral Home. After years of offering comfort and companionship to those in mourning, Bennie is now enjoying a well-deserved retirement. While Bennie’s gentle presence will be missed, we encourage those seeking the support of a therapy animal to contact us, and we will be glad to explore meaningful connections on your behalf.

Bennie’s Training
Bennie was certified as a grief therapy dog through the Canine Good Citizen program, following two years of specialized training provided primarily by Joan Krause. Bennie has had a deep impact on countless people since then, with an amazing ability to zero in on those who need the most support.

Bennie’s Impact
Because of Bennie’s presence at the funeral home, we have seen grieving children open up about their feelings and adults become visibly less stressed. We’ve watched Bennie help people relax in situations that are difficult and overwhelming. He truly provides a calming presence when families need it most.
