William G. Longe M.D., passed away on December 12, 2023 at his apartment in Muskego, Wisconsin at age 98.
A graduate of Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts, Marquette University School of Medicine and long time physician, Dr. Longe was one of the founders of West Allis Memorial Hospital in West Allis, Wisconsin. He served as President of the Staff for several years and then twenty three years on the Board of Trustees of the hospital.
Following his retirement from private practice he worked as the Corporate Medical Director for the A. O. Smith Corporation. A Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served in the Naval Reserve until 1969. When president of the medical staff he established the first Coronary Care Unit and the Intensive Care Facility at West Allis Hospital. During his career, Dr. Longe served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army in the Milwaukee area. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the Milwaukee Academy of Medicine. He also served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
He was a long-time member of the Bluemound Golf Country Club. Dr. Longe’s first wife, Joyce died in 1983. He is survived by his wife, Pamela, four sons, William, David, James and Thomas Longe; three grandchildren, Katie, Samantha and Jackie; three step-children, Peter, Jay, Kip and the late Pamela C. Tanner and their children, several nephews and nieces and cousins.
Private family services will be held.
