William (Bill) E. Day passed away in his sleep on Monday, December 23, 2019 following a two-year battle with cancer. He was married for 68 years to his dearest love, Janice, who passed away in July of 2017. He is survived by his two children, Jeffrey (Mary) Day and Debbie (Dave) West. His grandchildren include Brooke (Brian) Brickler, Ryan (Jess) Day, Jason West and Tracy (Jim) Kleppe. There are four great grandchildren, Brayden and Cameron Brickler, and Caiden and Raelyn Kleppe. He is also survived by his brother, Harold Day, sister, Audrey (Bruce) Kemp, and Brother-in-law, Fred Knobel in addition to many other relatives and friends.
Bill had five passions in life: his family, his faith, his country, the Northwoods of Wisconsin and the Masonic Fraternity, of which he served for over 65 years. He is a Past Worshipful Master of Lafayette Lodge and Past Grand Master of the state of Wisconsin (1985-86). Bill was also a member of other organizations too numerous to list.
Bill served in the Army for a year and the Navy for four. When he returned, he completed his education to become a teacher. He left teaching to join AC Spark Plug, a division of General Motors, later becoming AC Delco. He worked there until his retirement at age 60.
Retirement allowed Bill to chase his passion of helping people through the network of the Masonic Fraternity. He was instrumental in the formation of the Children’s Learning Center benefiting those with dyslexia. The program is still thriving today. Bill was also instrumental in the creation, building and funding of a new addition at the Masonic home in Dousman. He and Jan decided to move there nearly 20 years ago.
Bill would have turned 93 on Jan. 22, 2020, but the last two and a half years were very difficult for him without the beloved companionship of Jan, missing her greatly. They are now together again, forever.
The celebration of his life will be held on February 8, 2020 at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:15 PM. Religious and Masonic Services will begin at 12:30 PM, including Military Honors. Reception to follow.
