Virginia (Virg, Ginger) M. Balcerek went home to Jesus on Friday, October 18th at the age of 89.
Virginia was born to Harry and Mae (Hoersch) Hartmann on October 10, 1935, in West Allis, WI.
She married Ralph S. Balcerek on September 7th, 1957, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, West Allis, WI.
Virginia graduated from Holy Angels High School in 1954. Following her graduation, Virginia pursued an education in what became her life passion. She was able to combine her love of caring for others with her unlimited ability to learn, and she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Virginia worked with excellence in her vocation. Many hours were spent working in hospitals and nursing homes in the Milwaukee area.
In addition to her work, with her husband Ralph by her side, her passion, caring, and nursing skills blossomed into what became a lifelong mission. They spent countless hours volunteering for various Color Guard units including, but not limited to, The Continentals, The Racine Kilts, The Silhouettes and The Buccaneers. There were very few Color Guard events that did not include her helpful, friendly, wise and smiling face.
Virginia had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh with others. She was also a genuine and straightforward woman who was always willing to lend a helping hand. She also provided a sincere ear for listening and lovingly gave gentle guidance when needed.
Some of Virginia’s fondest memories came from summers spent touring with The Cavaliers. She volunteered as a nurse and traveled with the group every summer for many years.
Virginia loved Jesus. She prayed for everyone and lived her life in Jesus’ example. She entered His Kingdom peacefully in her sleep.
Virginia did not only take good care of others but she was very mindful of her own health. You could always find her walking in several local malls, or just walking down the driveway to admire the roses and other flowers throughout her neighborhood.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph, and special niece, Jeanne (Jim) Scalf. Further survived by nephews, great nephews, great nieces, family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will take place at Krause Funeral Home, 9000 W Capitol Drive, Milwaukee on Friday, November 1st 3:30 – 5:30 pm followed by the praying of the Rosary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to Midwest Color Guard Attn: Virginia Mary Balcerek Scholarship Fund. https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=VBYLJRVUHNJQW
