Thomas E. Schreibel “Tom” of Pewaukee passed away on March 23, 2018 at the age of 82 surrounded by his family. Tom loved his family, flying and the stock market. Beloved husband of Florine “Flory” (Poppie) for 60 years. Loving and proud father of Lynne Ann Schreibel (Mark Wolf) and Tom Schreibel (Dana). Proud and devoted grandpa of Brent Schreibel (Kelsey). Proud step-grandpa of Cale Wolf (Katie Morici).
Tom was born in Milwaukee to Betty & Rudy Schreibel in 1936. As a young boy, Tom moved to Waukesha with his mom and step-dad Rudy Graef. Tom graduated from Waukesha High School in 1953. Tom married Flory in 1958 at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Tom’s passion was aviation. He soloed at age 17, owned 7 airplanes, logged 2200 hours of flight and earned his private pilot, multi-engine, commercial and instrument licenses. Tom was a proud member of the Air National Guard, Quiet Birdmen (QB) and Waukesha Aviation Club. Tom loved being in business and helping others.
He taught his children the value of hard work to accomplish goals. He started his career as the owner of Tom’s Fine Foods in Waukesha, Wisconsin back in the day of “mom & pop” grocery stores and retired as Vice President/investment advisor at R.W. Baird in Oconomowoc. Best advice “Treat people like you would like to be treated”.
Tom enjoyed retirement during the winter months with Flory at “a little piece of heaven” in their condo at Port of the Islands in Naples Florida. Preceded in death by mother and step-father Betty & Rudy Graef, father Rudy Schreibel, brother Robert, brothers/sisters in law: Misako Schreibel, Donald (Shirley) Poppie, Keith Poppie, Paul Poppie, Richard Poppie and Beverly Gilbertson Hahn (Poppie). Survived by step-sister Mary Jane Quimette, sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and friends. The family wishes to thank Dr. Laura Raftery and the staff at UW Cancer Center at Pro Health Care for their caring and compassion during Tom’s journey. Special thanks to the ProHealth Home Care and Hospice team for providing outstanding care, comfort and support. Blessed to have Karen lending her support to Tom and the family. Grateful to Pastor Andy Fetters for spiritual support and guidance.
