Susan Lee Lindberg

Reverend Susan Lindberg, 79, of Milwaukee, passed away on September 15th after a long battle with Alzheimers.

Pastor Sue, as she was primarily known, was born in Seattle, WA to Ralph and Helen VonHollweg. After graduating from Pacific Lutheran University with a degree in history, she went on to earn a Masters in Education at Stanford; she taught before recognizing her true calling to ministry and earning her Masters of Divinity at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary.

She was among the first wave of ELCA woman pastors who proudly paved the way for others. She was ordained in 1980 and served Resurrection Lutheran in New Berlin and Saint Paul’s Lutheran in Milwaukee, before finishing her career in interim ministry. She was deeply devoted to urban ministry and social justice issues, taking on leadership roles in Project Equality and League of Women Voters.

When not devoting themselves to church, Sue and her husband of 57 years, Richard, traveled the world, learning history, admiring art, connecting with classmates from graduate school, taking photos, and going on safari. Namibia was one of their favorite places and they returned there eight times.

Pastor Sue is survived by her husband, Richard, her brother Max Von Hollweg and his family, her daughter Cristy Benson, son-in-law Rob, and grandchildren Peter and Jacob.

Memorial Service for Susan Lindberg will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 3:00 PM with reception to follow at Lake Park Lutheran Church, 2647 North Stowell Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
