Susan C. Race

Passed away on Saturday, August 10th, 2024, at the age of 61, after a long battle with dementia. Beloved mother of Erica (Marc) Pickering and Sydney (Greg) Katuszonek. Proud grandmother of Willow and Brooke Pickering. Further survived by brothers Randy and Gerald Race and sister Lynda Race. Preceded in death by her parents, Marlin and Nancy Race.

Sue was a graduate of Brookfield East High School (1980). She earned an Economics degree from UWM. Years later, to advance her career, she went back to UWM to earn a degree in Management Information Systems.

Sue shared her love for life and optimism with everyone around her. Her boisterous laugh could be heard from across the room and bring a smile to everyone’s face. She shared her passion for travel with her daughters by taking vacations to Hawaii, Jamaica, Disney World, Washington DC and the cabin. Sue cherished spending time with friends, whether it was listening to classic rock, enjoying the state fair, or relaxing in the backyard, where her love for music and good company filled her with happiness. She further spread her love for music by singing to her granddaughter, Willow, and celebrating her every milestone.

Sue was also a devoted daughter and sibling. Every Christmas she helped cook, bake, and shop with her mom to make every holiday special. Growing up, she spent her summers at the cabin with her siblings, a tradition they continued into adulthood.

We are grateful for and comforted by our treasured memories of Sue.

Visitation will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 9000 West Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM. Service will begin at 3:00PM.

To the Race family, sincerest condolences for your loss. Lynda and I served in AFG together. She talked about her sister. There were a lot of experiences most people will never have (or should have) in AFG. Lynda was amazed at how her sister could send her the perfect email at the perfect time that would make everything better.

Sue my friend, lighthearted and fun, I love your infectious giggle. Sue credited herself with picking me as her sister-in-law, introducing me to her husband’s brother. Later, we shared camaraderie as ex-sister-in-laws… and still friends. Deepest condolences to Sue’s family and all those whose hearts ache with the loss of a beautiful lady far too soon. XOX

Lynda and all relatives of Susan Race, losing a loved one is never easy. Please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss. Lynda, just know a bond between sisters never dies. She will be with you forever.

Lynda, I am so sorry to hear about your sister’s passing. I know it has been a difficult journey for your family. We have all come a long way from little kids on Kimberly Lane at Sawyer lake,—swimming the summer away. Last summer my mom passed and a few days later, the Aurora borealis danced in the skies over Sawyer Lake. I was comforted thinking it was her, dancing in heaven just for me. Just 2 night ago, lady Aurora was out wearing her green dancing dress at Sawyer lake. I hope it give you comfort, like it do for me that is was your sister, dancing in heaven. Much love to you all.

Sue was ex-sister-in-law, and mother to my 2 nieces, Erica and Sydney. She did an amazing job raising them, as they have grown to be wonderful, professional women and Erica, to being an amazing mom. We are sad that she passed too soon. Rest in peace Sue.
