Born to eternal life on October 8, 2014, at the age of 98. Sister Germaine, a Sister of the Divine Savior or Salvatorian, received a BS in Dietetics from Mt. Mary College in 1947. She served as a dietician at St. Mary's Hospital, Wausau, WI, Divine Savior Hospital, Portage, WI, and Salvator Mundi Hospital in Rome, Italy. Upon retirement in 1979, Sister Germaine served as a volunteer at the Salvatorian Mission Warehouse in New Holstein, WI. In her volunteer years she said, "I love to help others and the pay is out of this world."
Sister Germaine was preceded in death by her parents Gilbert and Mary (Vanden Eng) Vandenberg, step-brothers William (Hilda) Vandenberg, Edward (Mary) Vandenberg, Sylvester (Ceil) Vandenberg, Clarence (Lorraine) Vandenberg, step-sister Mary (Albert) Geurts, sisters Regina (Edward) Hendricks, Margaret Vandenberg, and sister-in-law Leona Vandenberg.
Sister Germaine is survived by her brothers Leo (Mary Jo) Vandenberg, Alvin Vandenberg, and godchild Elaine Huss, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews and members of the Salvatorian Family.
Visitation is Monday, October 13, 2014 at St. Anne's Salvatorian Campus, 92nd & Lisbon Avenue, Milwaukee from 12:30 – 1:30 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial is at 1:30 PM. Burial will be Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 9:00 AM at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Sisters of the Divine Savior in memory of Sister Germaine Vandenberg, SDS.
