Born to Eternal Life on June 2, 2013, at the age of 84. Sister Charitas received a BS in nursing from Catholic University, D.C. in 1956. She spent 38 years as a nurse at Salvator Mundi International Hospital in Rome, Italy. Upon returning to the United States in 1994, Sister Charitas completed a program in Clinical Pastoral Education and served as a pastoral minister at St. Anne's Salvatorian Campus, Milwaukee. When her health began to fail, Sister Charitas retired and eventually became a resident at St. Anne's Salvatorian Campus. Sister Charitas was noted for her energy, initiative, work ethic and her hospitality; no task was too much for her!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alois and Mary (nee Hunsbuscher) Elverman, brothers Fr. Donald and Richard Elverman, a sister, Roth Poritz-Celia and brother-in-law Russel Poritz and Ralph Celia. She is survived by a brother Charles (Pat) Elverman, a sister-in-law, Evelyn (Richard) Elverman, several nieces and nephews, her sisters and brothers in the Salvatorian Family and several longtime friends.
Visitation at ST. ANNE'S SALVATORIAN CAMPUS, 3800 North 92nd Street, on Thursday, June 6, 2013, 4:30-6:30 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial 6:30 PM. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery on Friday, June 7, 2013, at 1:30 PM. Donations my be made to the Sisters of the Divine Savior in memory of Sister Charitas Elverman, SDS.
