Shirley Engelmann (nee Williamson) was reunited with the love of her life and soul mate, Armin Engelmann Jr. on Sunday February 18, 2024 at the age of 89. She was very loved by her son, Jeff Engelmann, and his wife Dorothy, who both preceded her in death. She is survived by her other children, John (Sue) Engelmann and daughter Julie (Jay) Thumann.
She will be greatly missed by her biggest blessings, her five grandsons and families: Joe (Kate), Alex (Kinsey), Patrick (Natalie), Jack and Jacob Thumann.
Shirley dearly loved her four great-grandchildren, Lily, Amelia, Mason and Lucy, who all brought great joy to her even if by facetime.
Shirley was preceded in death by her three brothers (Warren, Allen and Laurin Williamson) and her sister, Yvonne Marsh. She is survived by her sister, Jean Larkee.
She was loved by many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends all over the world.
Born to Elmer and Lillian Williamson in Waupaca WI, she graduated from Waupaca High School and entered Milwaukee County Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. It is then that she met the love of her life, Armin Engelmann Jr on a blind date. They married in 1956 and had an amazing adventure together! While lovingly building a family, they enjoyed many travels around the world, dancing, curling, golfing, and spending time in Door County.
After graduation from nursing school, Shirley worked at St. Joseph’s hospital and then St. Michael’s hospital until her retirement. Shirley kept herself busy while working, making it all look easy. She was part of the PTA while her children were in school, helped Armin lead a pack of cub scouts, was actively involved in her church, played cards with neighbors and “The County Girls” as well as being part of Sons of Norway.
Shirley took great pride in her Norwegian heritage and was a proud member and officer of the Fosselyngen Lodge, Sons of Norway for over 40 years. Shirley was thrilled when finding out about and then visiting family in Norway. This inspired many years of genealogy which became a big factor in her life and the basis of many stories!
Her faith in God, Family, church and friendships remained the cornerstones of her life.
Visitation will be Wednesday February 28, 2024 from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM at Krause Funeral Home, 7001 West Brown Deer Road, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Funeral service to be held on Thursday February 29, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church, W172N11187 Division Road, Germantown, Wisconsin.
