On June 22, 2010, Ruth (nee Barnes) Witt lost her best friend and soul mate when Russell left his earthly body behind. His two sons, Russell Jr. and Richard, lost a wonderful father and devoted family man who left behind a legacy of love and faithfulness. His example of hard work, self control and dependability gave them a sound foundation on which to build their lives.Russell was born on March 24, 1931, to Theodore and Elsie (nee Pethke), and grew up with four sisters, Ruth (Warren) Husslein, Rosalyn (William) Hamrick, Barbara (Ken) Nelson and Beatrice (Allen) Butenhoff. They were born and lived in the same house until each one married. He attended church and school at Emmaus Lutheran Church, Rufus King, and MSOE. After graduation, he served in the US Army in Korea. He married Ruth in 1955, they built a home in Milwaukee where they lived for over 55 years.Richard married Cheryl (nee Gerhard) and together they had one son, Justin William and wife Michelle, and live in North Carolina. Russell Jr. married Alice (nee Fedyava) they live in Texas and have two children, Veronica and Alexander. From a previous marriage he had two sons, Kevin Michael (deceased) and Kyle John, both had Hunters Syndrome. Also survived by in-laws and 23 nieces and nephews.Russell worked for IBM, the Marine Bank, and J.C. Penney Co., until the time of his retirement. He gave of his time and energy to church management. He was a volunteer for AARP Tax Assistance for 15 years; a very active leader in the southeast area square dance community; and a volunteer at the Northwest Senior Center for many years.In lieu of flowers, memorials to Channel 10 or the Salvation Army appreciated.A Memorial Gathering will be held on Monday, June 28, 2-4PM., at WISCONSIN MEMORIAL PARK GARDEN OF ETERNAL LIFE.
