Ruby L. Merino (Castro) passed away peacefully Thursday, September 26, 2024, age 94, surrounded by family. Widow of Robert Sr. Merino, married 57 years. Beloved mother of Geneva “Jeannie” (Chris) Radke, Robert Jr. “Bob” (Diane) Merino, Irene (Andrew) Zerfas and Denise “Denis” (Benoit Comanne) Merino. Proud grandmother of Geneva “Gigi” Merino. Loved by all her extended family and friends, both in the US and internationally.

Ruby was born in Chile and first came to Milwaukee with her husband Robert in 1957. She had a long career at Berlitz Language Schools as a language teacher, interpreter and translator. Ruby was actively involved with the Spanish Club of Milwaukee for many years, celebrating Hispanic cultures and raising money for charities and scholarships. Ruby was an avid reader to her final days, always seeking to learn more about current events, anthropology, psychology and history. Her various creative interests included autobiographical writing, nursing, upholstery and flower arranging. A vibrant and caring person, Ruby is already profoundly missed and will be cherished in our hearts forever.

My heartfelt condolences to Ruby's family on the loss of your beloved Mother. Ruby was a remarkable woman who extended her warmth and vivacity to everyone she met. As a teacher, an interpreter, a leader, and a lifelong learner, she met hundreds of people from all walks of life and enjoyed interacting with them. She appreciated different cultures and points of view, and could handle any situation with her strong principles, sense of humor and creative solutions. Ruby's close friends knew they could depend on her at any time for whatever was needed. She was loyal and compassionate as well as imaginative and fun. I cherished her friendship for over 40 years and will miss her greatly. Rest in peace, dear friend.
