Ruby E. Roby passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the age of 84.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons Larry and Michael Harrell, siblings Preston Jr., Howard, Kelson, Willie Earl, Arthur and Lawrence Roby, Mary Jones and Lucille Binns. Ruby is survived by her three children: Rebecca (Edgar) Patton, David (Roslyn) Harrell, Christopher (Angel) Harrell, and stepdaughter Linda Broaddus; sixteen grandchildren: Lance, Summer, Orielle, Krystle (Mimi), James, Chris Jr., Anthony, Orlando, Destiny, Omar, Larry, Micah, Bleu, Cody, Jade, Skye; thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, loving sister Clennis Frederick, other beloved family members: Kim Harrell, Michele Wingo, Evelyn Harrell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
The seventh of ten children, Ruby was born in Carthage, MS on April 11, 1938, to Marthelma (née Griffin) and Preston Roby, Sr.
Ruby attended grade school in Carthage, MS and graduated from North Division High School, Milwaukee. She attended Milwaukee County Hospital to complete her nursing certification.
She met Roosevelt Harrell, Jr. while attending North Division High School, whom she married June 9, 1956 and from this union five children were born: Larry, Rebecca, David, Michael, and Chris. On April 14, 1979, Ruby married her second husband Harvey Triplett (deceased).
Ruby loved cooking, gardening, and animals, especially her dog Sadie. She was a longtime member of St. James UMC, a woman of devout faith, serving God and the Church. She served on the Usher Board and Methodist Women’s Committee until her retirement in 2003, when she moved to Jackson, MS and joined Middlebrook UMC, where she had a prominent presence until she suffered a stroke in 2008. Because of her love of family, Ruby moved back to Milwaukee to be surrounded by family and friends and took a genuine interest in everyone’s lives and well-being.
She was a strong, intelligent, sharp-witted woman with tremendous integrity and generosity beyond words. Ruby’s family was her highest priority and greatest joy, and her death has left another gaping hole in their lives.
Heartfelt thanks to the staff at LindenGrove Communities in Menomonee Falls, and Ovation Jewish Home, Milwaukee for providing outstanding care and selfless love for our mother, making her last 14 years of life wonderful.
Visitation will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 9000 West Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery. Per the families request masks are highly encouraged for visitation and service.
