Rose was born on a farm near Zionsville, Indiana to Delbert and Edna (nee Harvey) Lovett. Rose attended Zionsville Elementary School, graduated from Zionsville High School and attended Indiana University. Rose married Stanton W. Smith (whom she met in 2nd grade) at the Zionsville Methodist Church. While Stanton was in the Navy they lived in New York and Virginia. They later moved to Wisconsin in 1959 and settled in New Berlin in 1962. Rose retired from the New Berlin Police Department as an Administrative Secretary after 25 years of service. She loved researching family history and was a voracious reader of historical novels. She was patient, selfless, and kind. Rose was an avid gardener and had a way of making everything she touched bloom into beauty.
