Entered into Eternal Life on August 17, 2024.
Robert (Bob) is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marjorie, and his three children Patricia (Joseph) Schirger, Roberta (Jack) Conrad, and Thomas (Kimberly) Borchardt, as well as 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Mary Ann Borchardt. Preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth (Gerald) Tease and his brother William (Ann) Borchardt.
Bob was born on September 6, 1933 in Merrill, Wisconsin and grew up on a dairy farm. He later served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958, ultimately being stationed in Germany. He was very honored and proud to have served his country. Bob enjoyed telling stories about his time in the service, including a memorable trip with Army buddies to the 1958 World’s Fair in Brussels, as well as to Switzerland and Paris.
Bob also told stories about his work in the construction industry, where he developed his skills as a carpenter. He enjoyed that work but decided on one very hot day that he would prefer a desk job in an air-conditioned office. Having developed an interest in electronics while working with radios and transmitters in the Army, he went on to study electrical engineering at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). During his time at MSOE, Bob’s cousin Ann introduced him to his future wife, Marjorie. They married in 1964.
Bob worked for Allen Bradley/Rockwell as an electrical engineer for 35 years, retiring in 1996. In his free time, Bob rarely sat still. He was a skilled woodworker, creating many shelves, cabinets, candle holders, and other pieces for family members. His pride and joy was his home of 57 years, which he meticulously maintained and for which he had constructed a family-room addition on his own. Bob was known as “Mr. Fix-it” and seemingly could fix anything. He also enjoyed bowling, biking, puzzles, and going on long walks with Marjorie.
Bob’s love of sweets was legendary, and he was known for his sense of humor, corny jokes, and contagious laugh. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation to be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, 8661 North 76 Place, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mass of Christian Burial to follow.
