Richard M. Smith went to his heavenly home on 1/19/22. He was born 3-20-1928 to Richard M. Smith and Marie E. Wagner in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Loving husband and best friend of Dorothy A. Smith (nee Iglhaut). Loving father of Dr. Richard A. (Diana) Smith, David M. (Lauren) Smith, Mark M. (Maggie) Smith and Patricia (Patrick) Sazama. Proud Grandfather of Richard P. “RP”, Kathryn (LJ Stewart), Kristin, Megan, Nathan, Alana (Brian James), Briana (Cameron Cech), Lesley (Ben Tordik), Shannon (Coye Harrett), Bridget, Jeffrey, Scott, Joseph and three great-grandchildren, Sullivan, Audrey and Liam.
Dick spent his professional years in the construction industry. He was president of Lakeside Construction and Smith and Sons Construction. He specialized in custom home construction and commercial/apartment development. He was an avid sailor, ice boater, snowmobiler, pilot and car enthusiast. He loved watching auto races in person and on TV. He was also a handy man extraordinaire. He was able to take anything apart, repair it and put it back together good as new. He would often tell us to “fix it right the first time”. Growing up through the great depression taught him to never throw anything away. His home was like a hardware store. He saved everything.
Dick was very involved with competitive sailing on Okauchee Lake and other area lakes. He served on the board and became commodore of the Okauchee Lake Yacht Club. He helped with the construction of the original club house. He was also an active member of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Builders Association. Serving on the board in various positions.
Dick and Dorothy loved spending time on Marco Island in the winter months. As mom would say “It was their happy place”. What meant most to both of them is family.
You will be loved, remembered and missed.
