Dick grew up on the north side of Milwaukee, attended Rufus King High School and graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering where he later established the Swenson Aeromodeler's Scholarship. Flying was a passion he embraced throughout his life. He served his country in the US Air Force. Milsco Manufacturing Company founded by his father, Carl, in 1924 was Dick's second home and family. Dick was instrumental in leading the design and engineering group for many years. Dick was a mentor and generous in sharing with friends and family his skills, interests and hobbies.
