Richard C. Schmitt found peace on Monday, June 10, 2024 at the age of 88.

He was born in Milwaukee to the late Harold and Elizabeth Schmitt and attended Gesu Grade School. Taking after his father, Richard started his career as a master electrician working at Buge Electric. He co-founded Ardell Electric in 1966, as an electrical contractor. He was a successful proprietor and served on numerous boards and committees, (including serving as a Past President of NECA) until he retired in 2002.

Richard’s greatest joy was spending time with his family including: annual Nascar and Indy racing events, yearly hunting trips and fishing adventures in Adams Friendship with his boys, traveling to warmer climates and family celebrations. His most cherished accomplishment was a live kidney donation to his daughter, Carrie, in 1977, when she was 13 years old. His kidney continues to sustain and live on in Carrie to this day.

Richard is survived by his children: Dave (Carol), Chris (Ron) Peters, Dan (Barb), Carrie (Greg) Konle, Mike (Beth), his 8 grandchildren: Kevin (Emily) Peters, Nicki (Kevin) Klepp, Christopher (Kat) Konle, Alicia (Rob) Norris, Betsy Konle, Max, Logan, and Rex, and his 9 great-grandchildren: Alex, Maddy, Hadley, Makenzie, Augie, Emerson, Thomas, Toni and Miriam, and his 4 stepchildren.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife Mary (nee Fairchild) and first wife Marlene (nee Fiedler), siblings Bernadine Brucklacher, Elaine Radiker, Joan and Joseph.

A Memorial Service will be held at Arlington Park Cemetery Chapel, 4141 South 27th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 4:30 PM, with a visitation from 3:00 PM until the time of service. Dinner and drinks to follow the memorial service.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad. It was a pleasure working for him about 20 years. He was a generous, understanding man and I enjoyed working with him during those years as an employee & friend. I understand your Dad is getting Military Honors so we thank him for his service. We always enjoyed being around Richard and his family……He was a great “Big Brother and raised an awesome family🙏🏻🙏🏻

It is evident to all who knew Dick that he was a special man who loved my mother with all his heart and his devotion to her was a beautiful thing to witness and his memory will live on with those of us who had the pleasure of knowing this wonderful man.

I am deeply sorry to hear about Dick’s passing. I had the pleasure of knowing Dick since childhood and it was clear that he had a deep and special love for my mother with whom he will now be reunited. He held such an important place in our family for many years and we have many great memories of Dick, who will also again see my son Patrick in heaven to whom Dick always showed a special love as represented by the picture of him taking Patrick fishing and with Patrick and my other children knowing him as their loving grandfather. And I’ll truly miss our lively discussions about the latest national and international news events and most recently how it affects our life in Yuma, AZ. Dick was a wonderful man and we’ll surely miss him and keep him in our prayers.

I am so sorry for your families loss. I know that he was helpful to Austin and RJ throughout scouting. He was a very friendly man and will continue to inspire everyone from heaven.

Condolences to the all the family. I’ll always remember grandpa Dick for his kindness and visits with grandma.

I will really miss my special big brother. Rich was always the leader of the pack. Always available for advice or help when needed. My first memory is when he would meticulously wash his car and would take the (several) younger kids to church but he would line the floors with newspapers so his car would stay pristine for his date.
