Rich and I were great friends during our teenage years growing up in Woodside, NY. We went to the same grammar school, St. Mary's Help of Christians, and played on the same baseball and basketball teams in the 1960's. Our baseball team won the CYO Majors Championship 3 years in a row due mainly because of the power hitting and great catching of Rich. We considered our team to be a Dynasty! He thought Willie Mays was the best player of the time and I wanted to be Roger Maris. We actually wore their numbers 24 for Willie and 9 for Roger on our uniforms. We had a great time together both on the field and off as we often visited the local bars after games. I will miss my teammate greatly. To Bonnie, your kids and grandchildren I offer my sincerest condolences.
Thinking of your entire family at this time and so saddened by your loss. Prayers and love to you all <3
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
It is very sad to hear of the loss of this wonderful husband, caring and loving dad and a grandpa that embraced those beautiful grandchildren. May God give you strength and peace as you pass through many days of missing him.
With sympathy,
Carol Engel
I was so shocked to hear of Rich's passing, and can't imagine what Bonny and the family are going through. I hadn't seen or talked to Rich since our last gathering for lunch. I thought of him often and was getting concerned I hadn't heard from him and I should have called but didn't.
At least he went in his sleep, which has to be the best way.
I first met Rich the first day he walked into the Autotrol office in Glendale. I suspect his first day out of Queens.
He came in with a metal file box in his hand, as his first brief case. No idea what was in the box but I suspect lots of notes on all of the ideas he was to bring us.
We worked together for years there and then for a time at Envirex.
We became better friends, with more time together with him and family, after he essentially started to work on his own to develop ideas to improve the design and function of anaerobic digesters.
Rich was one of the best friends I ever had and I'm really going to miss him.
I feel really bad that I'm not going to be able to attend his wake or funeral having just had eye surgery and am not ready to drive and maneuver all that well yet.
Knowing Rich, he'll probably forgive me.
We are so saddened by the loss of your dear husband, loving father and father-in-law, and loving Granpa, and our dear and long-time friend, Rich. We are thankful for all the joy our friendship has given us. Much love to you and all in your family.
Dear Bonnie, Mike & Nicole, Tim & Shelly, Jeannine & Joe, my deepest condolences on the loss of my dear cousin Richie. My heart and prayers are with you all at this time of great sorrow and loss. We cannot express how sad we are at this time. We want you all to know that Richie was a very special person to me. We will miss him so. We always think of joyful times in Rockaway with Aunt Frances and Uncle Gene with Richie, Jeannine and everyone. He was always my moms favorite and she treasured her phone calls from him.
