Percy C. Johnson Jr. was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 19, 1949 to Gladies Hurdle and Percy Cornelius Johnson Sr. He was raised in a Christian home and was baptized at an early age. He attended Lee Street Elementary School.
Percy had natural business acumen, and at age fifteen he started working as an entrepreneur. He would jokingly say “I am the president and CEO of two companies, A1 Elite Contractors LLC. and We Care Investments Inc.” Percy had a few very close friends because he was a family man. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren, and there was nothing he would not do for them.
After a long illness, Percy departed this life on April 25, 2018. He is preceded in death by his father, Percy Cornelius Johnson Sr., his mother, Gladies Hurdle Hawkins, loving stepmother, Susie Johnson, two sisters, Pam Holifield and Shirley Johnson, and granddaughter, Joy Deandria Love McDougal.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Jennifer D. Johnson, six daughters: Dionne [Kelly] McDougal, Marquitla Rodgers, Gladies [Jeremy] Anderson, Yvette Rutledge, Carrie [Calvin] Holden, Lesley [Princeton] Pierson and one son, Bobby Rutledge Jr. Five brothers: Willie Johnson [Defuniak Springs, Florida], Earl [Mary] Hawkins [Lake Havasau, Arizona], Douglas Mackey [Milwaukee, Wisconsin], Wilson “Ty” [Alison] Johnson [Boulder, Colorado], Anthony Johnson [Elizabethtown, Kentucky] and four sisters: Brenda Henderson Dye [Milwaukee, Wisconsin], Evette Clay [Lexington, Kentucky], Denise Broadnax [DeMoines, Iowa], Bonita [Bradley] Vinson [Argyle, Texas]; two cousins that he grew up with in his granny’s house, Charnita [Eugene] Braxton [Grayson, Georgia], Jackie Hall Day [Las Vegas, Nevada] and a host of other relatives and friends.
