Paul A. Stamas
Passed away peacefully on April 3, 2023. Devoted husband of the late Jenny (nee Armiros). Beloved father of Kathrine (Thomas) Couston, Tom (Anna) Stamas, and George Stamas. Proud Papou of George, Paul (Josie), Maria (Bo), Paul (Cassandra), Paul (Sierra), and Alex. Adoring Great-Papou of Lennox. Dear brother of Dina. Also loved and will be missed by additional family and friends.
Paul was born in Greece on March 26, 1926. As a young man he worked in a restaurant-deli in Athens, until August of 1955 when he married Jenny. That year, the newlyweds took a leap of faith and moved to the United States to start a new life together. They were part of a tireless generation that knew hard work and determination.
Paul worked diligently for the Lord and for his family at AMC (American Motors Corporation) for 30 years. During the toughest of times, Paul would leave there and go directly to JCPenney to work an additional six hours a day. For 12 years, he worked 70 hours a week. Despite how difficult times got, Paul always had a positive outlook in life. He was certain of how trusting in the Lord to provide defeats all obstacles. He always insisted that the whole family attend church every Sunday, not to ask God for more, but to thank God for all of his blessings.
Even with his understanding of how much time and effort it took to make a living, Paul was extremely generous. He loved to entertain and make everyone feel welcome. He frequently told great stories about his life and never ceased making his children and grandchildren laugh. Paul would switch between Greek and English at the perfect time, adding to the hilarity.
Paul was a great role model, a devoted husband and the ultimate father figure. He was also the family chef who took pride in taking care of his home and his children. In 1992, unexpectedly, Jenny had a brain bleed and went into a coma. Afterwards she was unable to communicate, walk or stand, and she had limited mobility in only one arm. Paul committed 12.5 years without break to her. He remodeled his house with hospital equipment and hydraulic lifts so he could be her sole caregiver. He was truly happy he could provide her everything she needed, and he did so with a smile on his face. He exemplified being a good and faithful servant of the Lord, loving and respecting her everyday, a lesson he made sure to pass onto his children and grandchildren.
Strikingly, Paul passed away on the 31st year anniversary of the brain bleed that put Jenny into a coma. He died peacefully in his sleep at his home at the age of 97.
