Patrick John Rooney

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Friday, December 3, 2010, age 82. Patrick was born February 2, 1928, in Grandville, WI, to Peter and Marcella Rooney. He graduated from St. Catherine's Grade School in 1941 and from Custer High School 1945. He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Rooney was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad as a trainmaster. He retired in 1985 after 36 years with the company and returned to St. Maries. He married Shirley Posselt. Mrs. Rooney died in 1995. He was a member of the Elks and the Eagles. He was an active member of the American Legion and Benewah Council for Aging. He is survived by his sons Patrick O. (Debra) of Hartford, WI and Daniel M. (Dona) of New Berlin, WI; granddaughter Kelly, of New Berlin, WI; siblings Mabel Lecher of Brookfield, WI, Kathleen Gardapee of Fond du Lac, WI, and Gerald of Milwaukee, WI; step-children Ken Posselt and Geraldine Posselt, both of St. Maries, ID, Kim Posselt of Bull Lake, MT; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1995, daughter Julie Mitchell, and brother Michael Rooney. A Memorial Gathering will be held at the residence of Patrick Rooney, Sunday, December 12, from 1:00-4:00 PM. Please contact the family for additional details.
