Passed away Sunday, September 16th, 2012 at age 81, with her three children and other family members at her side. Preceded in death by her lifelong love, 1st Lt. Laurens Vander Hoop, USMC. An amazing mother to Derek (Mickey Else), Gerrit (Jamie) and Karlyn (Bill) Kyle. Grandmother to Jeremy and Travis Kyle, Allison Brune, Natalie Mantia, Taryn and Travis Vander Hoop, and Laurelyn Vander Hoop. Great-grandmother of Grace and Henry Brune.Nancy was a lifelong lover of reading and books, and for many years served as a volunteer at All Saints Cathedral, preparing for their annual book sale. She also volunteered at Hart Park for their Senior Meal Program, at Planned Parenthood and for many years volunteered at Schlitz Audubon Nature Center. After losing her husband in 1958, Nancy raised their three children alone… and they sorely tested her patience. Any credit for her children's command of the English language, love of literature and writing belongs solely to Nancy. She was a walking dictionary and thesaurus who routinely completed the New York Times crossword puzzle and word games in record time. Special thanks goes out to the entire Vitas Hospice team but in particular to Warren Williams who not only provided outstanding and empathetic care to Nancy, but to her family as well. He, and they, hold a special place in our hearts.A service will be held at 2:00 P.M. October 12th at the Wisconsin Memorial Park, Chapel of the Chimes, 13235 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, WI 53005. In lieu of flowers, Nancy would much prefer that you buy or give someone a book.
