My Aunt Nancy Nancy was a loving wife, sister, daughter, aunt, great aunt and great, great aunt!. She was engaged longer than anyone I know, around eleven years or so as they were busy taking care of her dad and his mom. They knew they could not all live together and once Bob’s parents had passed away they did get married and then took in Nancy’s dad to live with them. Nancy and Bob had a wonderful marriage and I give them a lot of credit for taking Grandpa in with them. At one point, Nancy asked if she could live with us – Tom thought she was serious and Mom thought she was joking! Nancy and Bob enjoyed traveling much of their lives. They would often come to my parents’ condo in Florida. They traveled to various places in the United States and really loved going to Hawaii. They would come visit me at UW-La Crosse when I was in college and we would go out to eat with my parents and tour the city. I remember going cross country skiing with my parents, Nancy and Bob, and my brother Dave at Fox Hills. We were all laughing so hard that somebody wet their pants – I cannot remember if it was my mom or Aunt Nancy or maybe both but it was one of them for sure! I doubt if either of them want to take credit! I also remember golfing at Hansen with Aunt Nancy. The two of us went a few times and then we went out to eat at Ponderosa. Nancy also taught me about some of the finer things in life. She used to make me southern comfort old fashions with water which I still love today! Nancy also persuaded me to try lobster which I also still love and she persuaded me to try frog legs which tasted like chicken. Once was enough for that though. Nancy and Bob would also play croquet and volleyball with us at my parents’ house and joined us for many cookouts. My mom and Nancy would take turns cooking us delicious meals for the holidays. Nancy would spoil all of us with many gifts and loved the holidays as much as we did. Nancy was a bookkeeper for a law office downtown for many years and Bob was a draftsman. They were both able to retire and enjoy life. They bought a beautiful condo in Waterford Square in New Berlin. In 2018, Nancy fell and broke her femur. This was very difficult as she knew she had to sell her condo and go into a nursing home. She loved her condo – it sold in one day. Originally, she was in rehab at Linden Grove and was very unhappy there – she did not like the food at all. Tom and I were able to get her into Village at Manor Park. We walked into her room one day and found her praying to get in there. Tom and I were very happy that we were able to make the move for her. She liked when we decorated her room for the holidays. She would always name her stuffed animals. Her favorite was Beuford , the dog, which she wanted by her tv so she could always see him. Beuford will be buried with Nancy! She also loved her dog, “Woof, Woof!” which she was so proud of – she won him while playing Bingo at Linden Grove. Nancy was an avid fan of the Packers and Brewers. She loved watching the Hallmark channel, Penny Press word searches, ceramics, owls and enjoyed Betty Boop and Maxine! Nancy did have a sarcastic sense of humor that made everyone laugh! Nancy told me that every night before she goes to sleep she says the Pledge of Allegiance, prays to Bob and sings the song from the Golden Girls. While I am definitely NOT going to sing this for you, I will read a few of the lyrics to you. Thank you For Being a Friend – Lyrics by Andrew Gold Thank you for being a friend. Travel down the road and back again. Your heart is true, you're a pal and a confidant. And if you threw a party, invited everyone you knew. You would see the biggest gift would be from me and the card attached would say, thank you for being a friend. SO, THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO WAS A FRIEND TO AUNT NANCY! Keep paying it forward and be a friend to others! We will complete Aunt Nancy’s celebration of life by listening to her favorite song, “Thank you for Being a Friend.”
