Nancy was born in Greece on May 25th, 1940. She was the youngest of five children (two passing as children prior to her birth). Nancy met and married Van P. Liacopoulos, a midshipman at the United States Naval Academy. Once married, Nancy became a navy wife, living in; Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and finally returning to Wisconsin to live near her family.
Nancy kept her family together after losing her husband in 2006. She enjoyed dinner and poker nights as part of the “The Card Club”; late night coffee with Doris & Christ Konstantinidis, and working with her brother at his lakeside restaurant. Nancy loved reading and listening to music. Later in life she enjoyed traveling and watching her many grandchildren grow to become wonderful educated adults.
Nancy was a quiet power that never ever complained. Strong with her faith and love of God, even in her weakest and darkest moments she would be thankful for all she had.
After once being asked why she always used so much sugar in her coffee; she responded that sugar represented the lean days living as a navy family. With two small children in tow, sugar was a luxury not always affordable. Her excessive use of sugar later in life represented the many years of hard work, sacrifice and blessings bestowed upon her and her family.
In later years, Nancy shared stories with her children of the various experiences she shared with her husband – most memorably sneaking into an inauguration ball for President Kennedy, night-long parties with close navy friends, and living up and down the east coast.
Nancy instilled a “family first” mentality in her children that created a strong bond between them of which she was very proud. As her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, assorted family and friends may we always live as she did; upright in faith, courageous, and strong. May you stay forever young.
“May your memory be eternal!”
