To know Nancy was to love her. She had a gift for turning complete strangers into fast friends. Nancy had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and valued. She left her mark on the world one conversation at a time.

Nancy was a yoga teacher long before yoga was cool – back in the 70s when most thought yoga was just a weird kind of stretching. For almost 50 years, she brought balance and peace to the thousands that she taught. She knew everyone’s name in every class, and probably their life story too. Forgetting a birthday, anniversary, or even a saint’s day was simply not in her DNA.

Nancy was the devoted wife of 59 years to her “forever boyfriend,” Larry. Their love story was one for the ages, a partnership filled with humor, respect, and romance. They are an example of what marriage is meant to be.

More than anything, Nancy embodied love and light. She is mother to five, Andrew (Kathy, 2020), Martin (Karen), Sandra (Adam), David (Felicia), and Michaela, each of whom she adored unconditionally. She is also a grandmother to eleven, who affectionately call her “Mess” – Lya, Lindsay, Mackenzie, Owen, Clara, Lucy, August, Beatrice, Xavier, Karly, and Olivia. And great-grandmother to two, Harrison and Felix (who also call her “Mess”).

While she will be missed terribly by so many family and friends, we find peace knowing she’s being welcomed with open arms by all who went before her – her parents, siblings, aunt, in-laws, and her beloved dog, Bear.

Nancy’s incredible life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at All Saints Catholic Church, 4051 North 25 Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM and last until Mass at 12:00 PM.

A reception will immediately follow in the church hall until 3:30 PM. Knowing Nancy, stories and laughter will flow as freely as the love she shared.

Nancy taught yoga to women in jail for many years, and also became part of a national prison ministry group.

Nancy~ my sweet, sweet friend. I’m so sad to have found out that you left this earth already. I know your light has shined brightly on so many since the day you were born, and you have an entire family and community of people who absolutely love and adore you. With a smile so bright that your eyes sparkled, you always had endless humor, you were a magnificent storyteller and communicated with such positivity and had such zest for life~ you always spread joy and love wherever you went! We were Kindred spirits ever since we met in such a serendipitous way ~ sharing “yogi tea” with you at the restaurant I worked at in Coronado, followed by instant connection and forever friendship! and I will always hold memories of you close to my heart. 💜

When I was just hired as a teacher at Christ King, it was the last day of school. I didn’t know anyone. Nancy asked me to lunch and made me feel very welcomed. She continued to be a supportive friend during those first few years. I never forgot her kindness!! Barbara Steiner

Although I never had the chance to meet Nancy, it’s clear that her beautiful heart and soul touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. I am grateful to you for helping shape my life; I know that Nancy was a part of that.

So sorry for the loss of a true shining light. She helped so many people through difficult times.

You went to our Creator on my birthday!! Your yoga classes in the basement of the church in Tosa were a hoot and a safe place for everyone to let go of drama and stress. You will forever be a wonderful vibrant woman in my heart! Namaste Nancy!

Larry. My thoughts are with you and your family. I cherish knowing you and Nancy. After interviewing a candidate for an art teaching position, you commented, "She reminded me of my wife, Nancy. Whenever she got up she would return to a different chair." The last time I saw you and Nancy was hiking in a state park. As always, you two looked happy being together.

I met Nancy st Banyan Point pool in Fla and we bonded immediately. I looked forward to our morning swims and our conversations. . She was so insightful and compassionate and I will miss her. To Larry and family I send my condolences and prayers . Remember that even though those we love go away they walk beside us every day.

A shining star has left this earth and heaven welcomes her. Nancy brought love and light to the many that knew and loved her. We will miss her. Nancy and I recently had lunch with Sueigi and Carol Harder and "caught up." We had a wonderful time and reminisced about the Marquette years and the fun we all had!! Nancy was so inspiring to me, as I went throught my cancer journey. She always spoke about our beloved Matthew and his smile. I know he, among many, greeted her as she moved into that glorious heavenly space! Nancy lifted our spirits everytime we were with her and the thought of her smile and positivity will always be there for us to capture at will.
