Died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 29, 2020, of natural causes. Age 84. Beloved husband of Jeannette A. Vandenberg (nee Dompke) for 52 years and 7 months. Loving father of Jeffrey (Lisa) and Joan Bennani.
Remarkable grandpa of Kaitlynn, Devin, Brianne Vandenberg, and NicholasAli and Malik Bennani. Brother-in-law of Rosemary (Joe) Dompke, Beneta Dompke, and William II Halliburton. Also loved by Godchildren Tammy Franklin, Daniel Max Halliburton, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Preceded in death by his parents Max and Etha Vandenberg, sisters Edith Halliburton, and Maida Vandenberg, in-laws Frank and Clara Dompke, brothers-in-law Francis (Claire) Dompke and Alvin Dompke and sister-in-law Mary Ann (Joe) Marchan.
He was an honorable member of the Lake Lodge #189 F. & A. M. Max was honorably discharged from the United States Army in December of 1958. He worked at Harnischfeger Industries, Inc. now called Komatsu and was an employee for 40 years. He retired on January 1, 1999. He was a member of the P&H Sports Club and Head Coordinator of the Sport’s Club family picnics every summer. Max also assisted at the P&H Fishing Jamborees and was the cook at the P&H Stag parties. He loved to make wooden toys on wheels, birdhouses and scrap metal artwork. He also loved history, baseball, Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and soccer. Max was the biggest cheerleader for Nick and Malik at their soccer games and tournaments.
