Margaret O’Brien (nee Reese) 1936 – 2023
Passed away peacefully with family at her side on April 24 at the age of 86. She is now reunited with the love of her life of 59 years, her dear husband Jim. She is survived by her children Margo (Bob) O’Brien Hokanson, James (Kelly) O’Brien, and Linda O’Brien McConkey; her grandchildren Ben and Lauren; and many special family members and friends.
The daughter of German immigrants, Margaret earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Marygrove College in Detroit, pursued a career in a STEM field following graduation, relocating to New Jersey to do groundbreaking research in the labs at the B.S. Pollak Hospital in Jersey City. She then married and raised her three children, later returning to the workforce to build a successful 35-year career with the Internal Revenue Service’s Milwaukee office, rising through the ranks and serving as a respected manager there for decades.
An avid bridge player, reader, traveler, and legendary shopper (especially when in the company of dear friend Sharon), Margaret will be remembered most as a caring and devoted wife, and a loving and generous mother and friend.
Margaret’s family would like to extend their thanks to her many wonderful friends who were always there to provide love and support in her final years, especially lifelong friend Norma Jean, Sue and Larry, Dave and Lori, Bethanne, Jill, Cheryl and Jeff, Elayne, and the Dolot family.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha, where Margaret had the privilege of serving as a loaned executive during her career.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
