Lorraine was born at home and raised in New England, North Dakota surrounded by an extended, hardworking Norwegian family. She attended nurses training in Billings, Montana where she met Robert "Bob" Holden, stationed during his Korean War tour of duty. She and Bob, a lineman for the power company, moved often during the next years living in Pennsylvania, Indiana, North Dakota, and finally Owen, Wisconsin, while raising their six children. Lorraine worked in many capacities as a nurse, extremely competent in all. She remarried upon her husband's death and resided for years in Abbotsford, Wisconsin, with Delbert Podevels. She was very active in the Lutheran church, playing organ and quilt making, as well as civic activities. Of her many attributes she is remembered most for her constant good cheer, graciousness, kindness, generosity, and subtle humor. She was truly loved by all whom she touched and will be greatly missed.
