(Nee Lucic) (Formerly Hoag) Born into Eternal Life on March 6, 2013, at the age of 93.
On all accounts, Lorraine Winke was a beautiful woman. Born in Milwaukee to Croatian immigrants Gjuro Lucic and Katrina (Pavelka) Lucic, she grew up in the Sherman Park neighborhood. Her birth year 1919, was the year after WW I had ended, Einstein's theory of relativity was tested, the first transatlantic flight occurred, and Prohibition was passed. A few years after graduating from high school, Lorraine married William I. Hoag. WW II started and Bill shipped off to Europe and Lorraine and their daughter Diane moved to Washington, D.C. for a year where Lorraine worked in a secretarial pool in the Pentagon. Unfortunately, Bill died in combat. When the war ended, Noel Joseph Winke returned home during the Christmas holiday of 1945. He decided to check on his friend Bill's widow. Borrowing his brother's car, Noel asked Lorraine out on their first date, New Year's Eve. At the end of August 1946, they married and Noel adopted Diane. Lorraine was a homemaker, raising their five children, Diane Mann, Noel C., Lynne Kern, Jeffrey, and Lee Ann Poling, in a house they built in suburban Wauwatosa's Ravenswood neighborhood. Lorraine and Noel joined St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, sent their children to the grade school, and Lorraine was an active volunteer at the church. In the mid 1970's through the mid 1980's, Lorraine worked in administrative support at Aetna Life & Casualty. She is survived by her five children, their spouses–Tom Forer, Cynthia Winke, David Kern, Carol Winke, and Sean Poling, 13 grandchildren and 16+ great-grandchildren.
