Linda Rose Schmidt was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She passed away on February 6, 2022 at the age of 69.
Linda was born to Ernest “Duffy” and Rose DuFresne on February 8, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York. She was the only daughter amongst 4 brothers: Ernie, Bob, Don, and Jeff. After graduating from high school, she married William “Bill” Schmidt and together they had 2 children: Kelly and Jodi. Linda was the best mom, always supportive, compassionate, helpful, smart, and strong. She was a proud MeMe to her 2 grandchildren: Olivia and Ella. Aunt Linda was beloved by her nieces and nephews. Her lifelong friends became more like family with her welcoming spirit.
Linda was a legal secretary until she retired from King & Spalding law firm in Atlanta, Georgia. After retirement, she moved to St. Augustine, Florida, a place she treasured and near to family. She spent the last 3 years in Wisconsin to be close to Olivia and Ella as she endured the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
Her gift was making everyone she knew feel loved and special. Linda remained close to extended and chosen family despite moves and divorce. She enjoyed shopping, playing tennis, traveling, cuddling with her pets, spoiling children, and sitting on the porch soaking up the sun. Linda especially loved moments with family and friends at the beach, happiest next to the water with a visor and a beach chair. Her warmth, wit, and generosity radiated to all of us, and we will carry on her legacy of love.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Rose DuFresne; her brother, Ernest DuFresne; her sisters in law, MaryEllen DuFresne, Debbie DuFresne, and Liz Holdsworth; and her beautiful nieces Lauren and Mackenzie DuFresne. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kelly (Michael) Verlatti and Jodi (Brad) Warhanek; her grandchildren, Olivia and Ella Warhanek; her brothers, Bob, Don, and Jeff (Debbie) DuFresne; along with so many family members.
Linda will be honored with a celebration of her life in St. Augustine, Florida in March.
