Larry V. Tylke

Passed away peacefully, March 22, 2014, age 84. Beloved father of Dr. James E. (Deborah) Tylke, Kerry Tylke and Suzanne (Joel) Riesen, children of Rita Deetz Tylke. Proud grandfather of Jack, Brady, and Henry Riesen and Andra and James Tylke, II. Dear brother of Vince Tylke and Delores (Gordon) Nelson. Preceded in death by siblings Cecilia Hoeltge, Chester Tylke, Leona Paustenbach and Roman Tylka. Many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will dearly miss him.

Larry was the youngest of 7 children, born on the family farm in Medford, WI. He graduated as valedictorian from Medford High School. He began teaching at age 19 at a rural grade school. During this period he enjoyed playing in a band called Larry and his Melodians, in which he played the trumpet and sang. In 1955 he received his bachelor's degree at UW Stevens Point. Soon after he moved to Milwaukee and taught at Lincoln Elementary School in West Allis. Larry earned his Master's in School Administration from UW-Milwaukee in 1961. For the next 9 years he served as Principal of the Kilbourn School in Oak Creek. When Shepherd Hills Elementary School first opened in 1971, he was chosen to be its first Principal. After 18 years of dedication, Larry retired to pursue other dreams. His next endeavor began in 1999 when he became an usher for the Milwaukee Brewers. It is here that he made many dear friends and found happiness in working the games. Larry's joys in life were his family, friends and music. In our father's words to all who loved him, "Bye bye for now."
