If you ever met my dear husband, Keith George Erickson, you would know he was a kind, personable, and funny guy. In following with his Scandinavian heritage, he was a very hard and tenacious worker; working until he was seventy-five and always enjoying it; and he loved telling his Scandinavian jokes. My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time, Gene. Dr. Erickson was an exceptional individual who embodied kindness, compassion, and generosity. His presence was a source of inspiration, and his ability to make everyone feel seen and valued was a rare gift. I feel privileged to have had him as a mentor at WIU and to have had the opportunity to learn from him. RIP Dr. Erickson. Thank you for being one of the greats.

I came to know Keith (and Gene) as my beloved Uncle Charlie’s next door neighbors of many years. It quickly became clear to me that Charlie and Keith had a bond grown out of genuine friendship and caring, and that they would be “there” for each other through their respective life and health challenges—and they were. Keith was one of the most grounded, polite, and caring individuals I’ve come to know, and I always appreciated his reach out to me as my Uncle experienced his own rounds of health challenges. Keith was a true gentleman, and no doubt a wonderful spouse, father, grandfather, and friend to all he knew

I had the pleasure of working with Keith in my classroom, he came in to supervise/observe several student teachers in my room. Wonderful man I always enjoyed visiting with him.

My favorite memories are choir banquets held at the Ericksons with Keith grilling and Gene organizing and preparing everything else. Sitting around the campfire by the river roasting marshmallows. I was in the choir with Keith for many years. He always had a joke to share. He is missed greatly in the choir and at FUPC.

To know Keith was to see a reflection of His Heavenly Father. After Covid hit we were blessed to be able to meet regularly on zoom with church friends who were shut in to stay in touch and shared God’s Word from Our Daily Devotional for wonderful discussions. We will miss Keith’s wisdom and prayers shared with our group., his wit, and beautiful voice in our choir. Rest in peace in Jesus’s arms whom He knew as His personal Savior. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. “ John 3:16

I first met Keith (Mr. Erickson) as my freshman year Spanish teacher at United Township High School in 1972. He always entered the classroom singing our first lesson, "¿Esta Susan en casa?" And we would all sing back in reply, "¡Sí, esta con una amiga!" He was a joyful and kind presence, someone whose respect I endeavored to earn. May his voice now join with all the choirs in Heaven, praising God. "¡Hasta la próxima!"
