Passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at age 77. Dear husband of Emma for 56 years. Loving dad of Marcus (Mary) Butts, Carlton (Vera) Butts and Valencia (the late Anthony) Scott. Greatest Granddad of Courtney, Olivia, Ryan and Evan Butts. Further survived by 1 brother, 3 sisters, other relatives and friends.

Joe retired from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department after 30 years of Service. He was a published author of 2 books.

Visitation Wednesday, June 5, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at METROPOLITAN MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 1345 West Burleigh Avenue, Milwaukee, and also on Thursday, June 6, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Church with a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Procession to Wisconsin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to American Cancer Society.
