His wife, Goldie; parents, Evangelos and Panagio (Papastylou) Skodras; sisters Polyxeni, Eleni; brothers, Costas, Tasos, Demitrios and Pavlos; and brother-in-law, Milt Kapitz, preceded him in death. Surviving are his sons, Dan (Vicki) Skodras and Peter (Sandy) Skodras; six grandchildren, Nicki, Joe (Brooke), Katrina, Tylor, Jonathan and Alexander; and two great-grandchildren, Sutton and Ryder. Also, surviving are his sisters-in-law, Ann Kapitz and Midge (Joseph) Wos, Voula Skodras and his brother-in-law, Steve (Deloros) Gaveras, along with many nieces, nephews and their families. John was born on June 23, 1926, in the village of Dasillion (Little Forest) in the mountains of northern Greece. He served on the police force and in the Greek army, and fought in the war to prevent the communist takeover of Greece. Three of his brothers were killed during that war. He immigrated to the United States in 1951 where he learned the shoe making and repair trade at The London Hat Shop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Goldie and John were married on August 30, 1953 in Milwaukee. In 1956 they started their own business, and in 1960 they moved to Wauwatosa, Wisconsin where they raised their family and operated their business, The Cobbler Shop, at the Mayfair shopping mall. John loved his family and friends, and was loved greatly, as evidenced through the display of affection shown by the many family and friends who he touched throughout his life. He will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's name may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Wauwatosa.
