The smile and twinkling eyes captured in John’s photograph reflect how he was in the world. John became a dear friend to me, as well as respected colleague, in the development and delivery of the graduate program based in Vermont and New Hampshire to cultivate workforce development and systems improvement there in the Milwaukee area. We were colleagues for nearly 20 years. John was an extraordinary leader, teacher and friend who believed in always trying to make things better for everyone concerned. His unique combination of mind, heart and soul benefited so many. My memories of John include many great brain storming meetings, often over a good meal (some he prepared) and our shared personal and professional joys and concerns (which sometimes could go on for hours), as well as graduation ceremonies and official events and forums. He truly brought his authentic self, as well as joy and humor, to everything he did. He worked in partnership with others, including myself, in meaningful ways. I have no doubt what a hole his passing leaves in the community and his family. He shared much about himself with me over the years, and his huge love for his family, his children, his partner and friends were always primary and significant. I feel deeply for your loss, and though I can’t be with you in person, I will be with you online in Vermont with a glass Milwaukee cityscape art piece he gave me and tears down my face as they are now. I take comfort in knowing he is in his glory with God and in the loving embrace of his mother and others with that energetic smile and pure joy intact and only expanding out into the universe and all of us. May you find comfort and peace, as well as the gratitude I feel for knowing John. He was a blessing. In loving memory, Susan

There's a song in the Broadway musical, Wicked called "For Good" , and a very special verse that says "Because I knew you, I have been changed for good". In the short time I knew John, he touched my life in a very special way as I know he did for so many others, and I am so thankful for our long conversations and laughs. I will miss John's "can I phone a friend?" messages, but am warmed by the thoughts that he is now in a wonderful place reaping the rewards of a life lived so beautifully.
