John R. Welty

John R. Welty of Milwaukee passed away on March 23, 2024 at the age of 75. Born to James R. and Marjorie G. Welty in Park Falls, with an older sister Susan and a younger brother Dick.

John worked in his parents’ trucking company, Flambeau Transfer. He graduated from Park Falls High School and UW Eau Claire with a degree in Biology. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. In the Navy, he served as a navigator on the P3 Orion with deployments to Spain and Sicily. He retired from the Naval Reserve as a Lt. Commander.

John enjoyed amateur ham radio, woodworking and motorcycles. His favorite place was his family’s cabin on Boot Lake.

In his first marriage, he welcomed daughters, Rachel and Meredith. In 1993, he married Joanne Sprecher. Together they had a son, James C. Welty.

John is survived by his wife of 30 years; his daughters, Rachel (Dr. Scott) Duncan and Meredith (Dr. Jeremy McCue) Welty; and son, James C. Welty; 3 grandsons, Cameron, Devon and Aidan. He is further survived by his siblings; and many nieces and nephews.

 Visitation at 10:00 AM. Memorial service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 20, 2024. at Peace United Methodist Church, 12860 West North Avenue, Brookfield, Wisconsin.
