Our beloved brother, Jerry, Age 70, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2012. Dear father of Wesley Statkus and Dr. Nick (Erin) Statkus. Grandfather of Jackson, Clara and Molly. Loving brother of Wisconsin State Senator Alberta (Dr. William) Darling and Franni (James) Freeman. Uncle of Liza (Paul) Winkeljohn, Will (Nancy) Darling, Peter (Becky) Freeman and Emily Freeman. Nephew of Teresa Rizzo. Also loved by other relatives, friends and the Alexian Community.Jerry was an all-around athlete playing high school sports and college basketball. He was an attorney who dedicated his life to the under-dog. An avid contributor to his community, he especially enjoyed mentoring children, particularly at Silver Spring House. A loyal and faithful friend, he maintained and nurtured friendships for decades. Living at Alexian Village for 10 years, he was enriched by the people who lived and worked there. They became his family. He related to people of all ages and walks of life, making everyone feel special. Afflicted with M.S. in his mid-twenties, he conducted himself with grace and dignity as the disease progressed — never, never giving up. He inspired everyone with his courage to face every day as it came. As a family, we want to thank the Alexian community for their compassionate care — because of them, Jerry lived a full life.Memorial gathering at ALEXIAN VILLAGE CHAPEL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, 9301 North 76th Street, Friday, October 12, 2:00-3:00 PM.
